Dr. David S. Wishart is a Distinguished University Professor and Canada Research Chair in Metabolomics and Precision Medicine at the University of Alberta, where he holds appointments in the Departments of Computing Science, Biological Sciences, Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences, and Laboratory Medicine and Pathology. He is the founder and director of the Metabolomics Innovation Centre (TMIC) and has extensive experience in bioinformatics, cheminformatics, and metabolomics. A proud Métis with Cree and Assiniboine ancestry, Dr. Wishart was born and raised in Edmonton, Alberta. He earned his B.Sc. in Physics from the University of Alberta, followed by his M.Phil. and Ph.D. in Molecular Biophysics from Yale University under the supervision of Frederic M. Richards. His groundbreaking work spans protein NMR spectroscopy, metabolomics research, database development, and biotechnology entrepreneurship, making him one of the world's most cited scientists in computational biology.
